Meeting the School

A Grade 3 Russian Language topic: «Meeting the school» (pp. 3–4). The 1st of September: the children are going to school and carrying flowers for the teacher. V. Lebedev-Kumach's poem «Здра́вствуй, шко́ла!» is about summer ending and the school year beginning. New words: бы́стро (quickly), нача́ться (to begin), ко́нчиться (to end), уче́бный год (school year), пролете́ло (flew by), наступи́л (came, began), просто́рный (spacious), све́тлый (full of light). Pairs: просто́рный = свобо́дный, пролете́ло = ко́нчилось, наступи́л = начался́. Antonyms: хоро́ший ↔ плохо́й, весёлый ↔ гру́стный, но́вый ↔ ста́рый, бы́стро ↔ ме́дленно.
