Grade 7 History of Kyrgyzstan topic: '§1. The Great Kyrgyz State and the first years of its growth' (pp. 7–11, T. K. Chorotegin).
The Uighur Khaganate, one of the strongest states of the eastern Turks, was unsettled inside, and quarrels between its groups grew. In 763 Manichaeism was officially adopted in the Uighur Khaganate, yet the khaganate was also home to followers of Tengrism, Buddhism and the Christian Nestorian movement. In the 820s and 830s the struggle at court grew fierce: six khagans changed in only twenty years. A dzhut followed, and famine swept the country. At that time the economic and social condition of the Kyrgyz Khaganate was good. The Kyrgyz khagan sent an ultimatum to the Uighur khagan, and in 840 an army a hundred thousand strong took the Uighur capital Ordu-Balyk. The Kyrgyz khagan moved his court from the Yenisei valley to the south, to a place south of Mount Lao-shan (Tannu-Ola). The term 'the Great Kyrgyz State' was first brought into historical scholarship by academician Vasily Vladimirovich Bartold. It is fitting to call the state of 840—924 the Great Kyrgyz Khaganate.
