Kyrgyz is the state language: the Law on the State Language was adopted on 23 September 1989. It is one of the Turkic languages, and the Manas epic was created in it. A state language is a mark of a country's sovereignty. By purpose, a sentence falls into four types: жай (declarative), суроолуу (interrogative), илептүү (exclamatory) and буйрук (imperative).
