Grade 9 topic of the subject «History of the Development of Religions»: § 2 «The foundations of Buddhism» (A. K. Dotaliev et al., pp. 15–22).
Buddhism is the oldest of the world religions; it arose in ancient India between the 6th and 4th centuries BC. Today more than 400 million people are Buddhists. The real name of its founder is Siddhartha Gautama. The Buddha's laws are called «Dharma», and the symbol of Buddhism is the wheel.
The Buddha's teaching rests on the Four Noble Truths. The Eightfold Path is divided into three parts: sila (morality), samadhi (meditation) and panna (wisdom). Buddhism has two main schools: Theravada and Mahayana.
