Grade 6 Computer Science topic: '§1. The main parts of a computer and their functions' (pp. 4–12, T. R. Oruskulov, M. U. Kasymaliev, A. A. Kuznetsov, L. L. Bosova).
A modern computer is a universal program-controlled electronic device for working with information. It consists of a processor, memory and devices for putting information in and getting it out. The main characteristics of a processor are its clock frequency and its word length. Computer memory is divided into internal and external: internal memory includes random access memory (RAM) and read-only memory (ROM). When the computer is switched off, the information in RAM is lost, while the information in external memory is kept. Input devices are the keyboard, the mouse and the microphone; output devices are the monitor, the printer and the speakers. A standard keyboard has 104 keys. The system unit, the keyboard, the mouse and the monitor make up the minimum set that lets a computer work.
