What we study in history lessons

Grade 5 topic of the subject «History of Kyrgyzstan»: Part I, § 1 «What we study in history lessons» (pp. 5–8). Translated from Greek, history means «a story about past events». The ancient Greek historian Herodotus was the first to write a work called «History», and Cicero called him «the father of history». World history is the history of the peoples of the planet; national history is the history of a single people or state. Auxiliary sciences help us study history: archaeology, ethnology, chronology, palaeography, numismatics, epigraphy, genealogy, heraldry, sphragistics and toponymy. The first Kyrgyz historian, Osmonaly Sydyk uulu, published «A Short History of the Kyrgyz» in Ufa in 1913.
