A Grade 7 Kyrgyz Literature topic: «The many sides of life» (pp. 5–9).
Literature is one of the oldest arts, and the word is what sets it apart. Each art reflects the same thing in its own way: science explains rain with an exact definition, a photographer freezes the moment, and literature speaks through the devices of imagery (two lines by Alykul Osmonov, Ch. Aitmatov's “And then the downpour came!”). Written literature is made by a writer, poet or playwright; oral literature by an yrchy, manaschy, tökmö or storyteller. V. G. Belinsky: “The eternal model of art is nature,” and the greatest thing in it is the human being. M. Gorky called literature the study of man; N. Chernyshevsky called it a mirror of life.
