About this material
A Grade 8 topic in Technical Drawing: “Introduction. The drawing and the history of its development” (pp. 3–8, A. D. Botvinnikov, V. N. Vinogradov, I. S. Vyshnepolsky).
In technical drawing lessons you learn to understand and make different graphic images, first of all drawings. A drawing is one of the means of studying the objects of the real world. The first mentions of drawings in Russia date from the early 16th century; the oldest drawings recorded in a church archive date from 1517. In 1586 the cannon master Andrei Chokhov cast the huge Tsar Cannon.
A drawing contains images of the part, dimension figures and text. Assembly drawings are used to assemble a product from ready-made parts. Drawings made freehand by eye while keeping the proportions are called sketches. Images that show how products work in a simplified, conventional way are called diagrams. Pictorial images include axonometric drawings and technical sketches.
